The Eastern Black Sea Development Agency (DOKA) describes Trabzon as a regional center that draws people from neighboring provinces, with an agro-industry built on hazelnuts and tea, developed aquaculture and a strong dairy sector. ## Technology zone, universities and industry

- **Trabzon Teknokent:** The Trabzon Technology Development Zone was designated by Council of Ministers decision 2004/7127 of March 22, 2004, published in the Official Gazette on April 30, 2004, and runs its own technology transfer office.
- **Universities:** DOKA counts three universities, two public and one private, one of them a technical university: Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ). The agency lists the skilled workforce they supply among the province’s strengths.
